An Excerpt From My Story

As my Composition 156 course comes to a close, I have started to begin thinking about writing again. New ideas have been popping into my head. Edits I would like to make. I originally started writing this for NaNoWriMo -- but I think I'd rather take my time and see what comes from this. I'm not willing to say something is finished until I feel like it is finished. So.....here's a tiny excerpt to help me get in the mood too!

The world was still spinning as he opened his eyes. He could feel that he had opened them but still couldn't see anything through the darkness. He went to move his right arm. A sharp pain shot through his wrist as he dug it into the shackle that held him pressed against the wall. His arms were above his head locked against the wall that was at his back.
As his eyes began to get accustomed to the darkness, he could make out the shapes of other men around the dungeon. Crumpled and lifeless, not a single one was moving. In fact, as he began to see more clearly, some of their bodies were amassed in piles in the corner of the room.  A dank, musty smell of old wet air and decaying flesh filled the entire area.  A wave of nausea suddenly took him before he could react.
He vomited before he could turn his head away to keep it from getting all over himself. The warm purge splashed down his chest and stomach onto his thighs, compounding the stench.  Was there anyone left? How did this happen? One minute, he had been eating venison and drinking mead in the hall.... What had happened? How did this happen? .........
